Eastbourne Town 4  Meadow Sports 1

Town started the match in sluggish style, but had most of the attacking play without giving Meadow any early chances to threaten Jenni Watson’s goal. In the 23rd minute following a succession of chances that fell foul of Meadows’ offside ploy, Lil Johnson long ball found Tasha Pearson, who in turn found the back of the net. With nerves settled, the game became a bit of a one sided affair, Lisa Cunningham opening her account for Town, a second goal from Pearson, and an own goal giving Town a 4 – 0.

However in first half injury time, Meadow sports converted their first meaningful attack, tucking a low ball just inside of the post.

The Meadow goal changed the game, as they came out for the second half in a completely different frame of mind, and now it was Town who found themselves  penned in their half.  Towns defence held out, and despite the continual pressure, Jenni Watson only had to make one save, tipping a low shot round the post, while at the other end Loren O’Dwyer almost capped her 18th birthday celebrations with a goal, as her 20yd. Free kick was  finger tipped to safety.

Tasha Pearson, towns’ ever improving striker was awarded p.o.m

--------------------------------------------------

Pride, ambition and gutsy determination come to mind following yesterdays performance, in addition to some of the best football we have played for a long time.

The proverbial "kick in the teeth" came in the first minute, when we stopped to wait for a decision that didn't come and Heath sliding the ball into the bottom right corner.
Battling all the way to half time, Chelsea made a brave challenge for a ball bouncing between her and their keeper and stabbed the ball over the line on 35 mins.
The 50th minute saw the best goal i have seen at the Saffrons Tasha's cross from the right was hit so hard from Chelseas' head, that the faithful few behind the goal were seen to take a step backwards before the net saved them. But H.H came back and levelled 3 mins. later.
Again Town took the lead with Ellie Guy, finishing off a corner (on 61mins.), and again H.H. came back and leveled.
Towns winner on 72 mins. was again as sweet a 30 yarder as i have seen, when Tanya Roberts appeared to be marginally offside, taking the ball down 40 yards out this time she played to the whistle, looked up,set, and placed the ball over the keeper and in off the crossbar.
In my opinion, we edged the match, and with the number of chances we created mid way through the second half we could have won more comfortably than 4 - 3, the pick of the missed chances being Ash's bullet against the post.

Finally, what a fantastic match, and advert for the female game.

---------------------------------------------

During pre-season, we were fortunate to gain the services of four talented young players from last years borough youth team, which disbanded at the end of the season.
As the more experienced players had in effect "got the job done" within the first 15mins( 5 - 0), there was the ideal opportunity to get them on the field together.
Chelsea rounded off her first league start as an outfield player, having deputised in goal last week, with a hat trick on 2, 5 and 15 mins. scoring a fouth on 46.
Ellie Guy scored her first goal in a town shirt, while putting in an excellent performance in midfield following the departure of lil johnson with a knee problem. Jade fitzpatrick called in to replace Lisa Cunningham, and Ashleigh Jenkinson for Tanya Roberts slotted in well and were both involved in assissts for second half goals. Last weeks p.o.m Tasha Pearson scored a stunning hat trick, while Loren O'Dwyer(2), Lil Johnson, Tanya Roberts and Jo Templeman also found the back of the net.

Player of the match for Town, was Chelsea Jenkinson, but match heroine was the Abbey Rangers keeper, who despite the undignified job of retrieving the ball from the back of the net 13 times, made a string of excellent saves .

Eastbourne Town Ladies 3 - Whitehawk 3

3 - 3 away to Whitehawk reserves, was a good result considering the age/experience and the physical presence of the opponents.

However on 5 mins Tasha Pearson put a low cross from the right, into the box, and Lil Johnson side footed home.
3 mins later, a corner from Tasha found the right boot of captain, Jo Templeman and was rifled home.
on 63 mins. Tasha latched onto a beautifully weighted ball from Ash Jenkinson, and having previously set up the two goals shot a contender for goal of the season from 20 metres into the roof of the Whitehawk net.
despite scoring two very fortunate goals, Whitehawks endeavour in the second half was well worth the point.
special thanks to Chelsea Enkinson, who deputised for the regular keepers.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Into the unknown this season, 24 players registered of which all have impressed in pre-season,
Four ladies have crossed over from Hailsham, following the collapse of their team, likewise four ladies from last years borough u16s following their decision not to run an u17s this season.

The first four have all played at the senior level, so bring in some much needed experience and stability and the four younger ladies should ensure that the club continues to flourish over the coming years.

Obviously it will take a few matches for the team to pick itself, but everything seems to be in place for an exciting season.

The first match on Sunday 2nd Sept kicks off at 2pm and couldn't be a tougher test of our seasons requirements. Rottingdean in the FA cup.

The opponents are a strong physical team, that never stop working for each other, and must be favourites to finish top of our league, having improved steadily as last season progressed.
